Dr. Lasseter earned her B.A. and M.A. from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and then her Ph.D. from the University of Alabama.

Her field of specialization in 19th-century American
literature centers on Rebecca Harding Davis, and includes Nathaniel Hawthorne.

She is past-president of Association of College English
Teachers of Alabama (ACETA), was cofounder of the Nathaniel Hawthorne Discussion Circle for the South Atlantic Modern Language Association, served as chair of the Task Force on the Status of Women from 1990-92, and chaired Samford's English Department from 1991-2000.
