Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference
   

Phi Alpha Theta is a student organization that provides social and academic events for history students. Membership allows you to:

  • Get to know students of all ages and backgrounds who share your interests in history
  • Get to know professors
  • Enjoy semester get togethers
  • Enter competitions and apply for scholarships and awards
  • Attend speakers' programs
  • And membership looks good on a resume

The International Honor Society in history, Phi Alpha Theta, was established at the University of Arkansas March 17, 1921 by N. Andrew N. Cleven. Since the inauguration of Phi Alpha Theta it has grown to more than 740 chapters in 50 states and has earned the distinction of having more chapters than any other accredited honor society in the world. The total number of initiates, since its inception, is more than 240,000.

Phi Alpha Theta is a professional society whose purpose is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of good teaching, research, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. It seeks to bring students, teachers, and writers of history together both intellectually and socially as well as encouraging and assisting historical research and publication by its members.

Epsilon Rho Chapter Eligibility

Epsilon Rho Chapter at Samford University is open to students who meet the following undergraduate criteria:

  • Completion of 12 semester credits of history
  • History grade point average of at least 3.0
  • Overall grade point average of at least 3.0
  • Payment of membership fee

Membership is not limited to history majors.

Epsilon Rho Chapter Membership

Lifetime Membership

All persons wishing to wear Phi Alpha Theta honor cords at graduation must:

  • Attend one of the two yearly Initiation Ceremonies
  • Attend a MINIMUM of two (2) chapter sponsored events each year during their course of membership
  • Maintain 3.0 grade point average in all attempted history courses
  • Maintain a cumulative 3.0 grade point average
  • Present at least one paper of original scholarly research in the area of history during the course of membership at the Phi Alpha Theta sponsored conference.
  • Exceptions to these requirements can only be made with the approval of the Faculty Advisor.
