Faculty and Staff
There are four full-time members in the Department of Psychology as well as
several adjunct faculty. The current full-time faculty are:
Dr. Stephen L. Chew has served as Professor and Chair of the
Department of Psychology since 1993. He received his Ph. D. in Experimental
Psychology from the University of Minnesota and has been teaching since
1984. Courses he teaches include General Psychology, Statistics for Social
Sciences, Journal Seminar, Cognitive Psychology, and Directed Research. His
research interests include human memory and thought processes, cognition and
instruction, and perception.

Dr. Jacqueline Goldstein is an Associate Professor of Psychology and
teaches courses in Lifespan Development, Physiological Psychology, Research
Methods, and Internship. She holds a Ph.D. in Psychology/Behavioral
Neuroscience from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her research
interests are related to the stigma of mental illness and social isolation of
the mentally ill. Specifically she has made multiple visits to Geel,
Belgium, to study their centuries old, unique foster family model of community mental health care.

Dr. Nicole J. Siegfried is earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology
form Oklahoma State University. She is an Assistant Professor of Psychology
and teaches courses in Abnormal Psychology and Approaches to Counseling and
Psychotherapy. Dr. Siegfried has a background in both clinical research and
therapy. Her research interests focus on eating disorders and body image in
women.

Dr. A. Sandra Willis is a Professor of Psychology and
received her Ph.D. in experimental social psychology from Tulane University.
Before coming to Samford, she worked as a writer and editor at the
Psychological Corporation, and held teaching positions in the University of
South Carolina System and at Loyola University of New Orleans. Her research
interests include embedding critical thinking into the teaching of
psychology and investigating the relationship of religiosity, perceived risk
and health behaviors.
