Sociology Club: Student Activities Beyond the Classroom
Samford's Sociology
Department consists not only of class room work, but community
based learning as well.
The Sociology Club
brings speakers to the students and is a social outlet for
sociology students to get together outside of the classroom
setting.

"Recently, I have seen how important the causes of social justice are to my life.. Intentions may be pure and right, but without actions, they are lost and unimportant... Building a wheelchair ramp with my Sociology of Medicine Class has been a way for me to do this."
"It took some hard work and dedication to build the ramps in the hot and muggy weather in the country. I could say that the people really felt blessed by our work because of the actions and expressions that were on their face when we got done. I have learned from this class that I must cherish everything that I am given while I am young because there is no telling when I will need the help of others when I become elderly."
"I am going to leave this class giving a lot, but not nearly as much compared to how much this class gave to me."
"This course allowed my mind to make a full circle of help, love and learning..." |

a privy for one of the 27,000 residents of Alabama without
indoor plumbing or running water. This was an exercise coordinated
by Dr. Roberts to help students understand community health
issues. |
