Consortium with Other Colleges

The Birmingham Area Consortium for Higher Education (BACHE) was created with initial funding support from The Greater Birmingham and Robert R. Meyer Foundations. BACHE is a collaborative approach by which the five, four-year colleges and universities in the Birmingham area enhance the educational opportunities of their students in a prudent economic fashion.

BACHE initiatives focus on programs that are improved through inter-institutional cooperation or that a single instituation is unable to offer.

The Cooperative Course Exchange Program of BACHE expands course offerings available to students and eliminates gaps that occasionally occur within programs on individual campuses. Full time students who are in good academic standing at the home campus may take a course at another BACHE site at no additional cost. In most cases, such courses are not available at the home campus and are taken elsewhere to improve the student's program and overall educational experience. Written permission from an academic advisor is required.

BACHE institutions cooperate to strengthen tradtional classroom instruction to upper level foreign language courses. Advisors in the home campus foreign language departments can assist students students in accessing off-campus classes that benefit their programs.

Languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili may be accessed at either Samford University or UAB through self-instructional-tutorial study.

For additional information call the Department of Foreign Languages on your campus.
