Professor Ferguson comes to Samford
from the University of Texas at Austin, where she is completing
a Ph.D. in German literature. Her research interests include
female self-representation in early modern poetic texts as
well as Baroque rhetoric and poetics. She specializes in medieval
and early modern German literature, but is also interested
in women’s studies, German film, and using technology
in the foreign language classroom. Professor Ferguson is a
recent recipient of both Fulbright and DAAD awards to study
in Germany and has spent two years researching there, at the
Freie Universität Berlin (2000-2001) and the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität
Greifswald (2003-2004).
In 1999 she completed an MA in Germanic Studies from the
University of Texas at Austin which focused on the interaction
of text and music in Martin Luther’s musical compositions,
and particularly in the German Mass he completed in 1524.
At Samford, Professor Ferguson teaches both lower and upper
division German language courses and she sponsors the German
Club.
