Professor Ferguson comes to Samford from the University of Texas at Austin, where she is completing a Ph.D. in German literature. Her research interests include female self-representation in early modern poetic texts as well as Baroque rhetoric and poetics. She specializes in medieval and early modern German literature, but is also interested in women’s studies, German film, and using technology in the foreign language classroom. Professor Ferguson is a recent recipient of both Fulbright and DAAD awards to study in Germany and has spent two years researching there, at the Freie Universität Berlin (2000-2001) and the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität Greifswald (2003-2004).
In 1999 she completed an MA in Germanic Studies from the University of Texas at Austin which focused on the interaction of text and music in Martin Luther’s musical compositions, and particularly in the German Mass he completed in 1524.
At Samford, Professor Ferguson teaches both lower and upper division German language courses and she sponsors the German Club.
