The Black Law Students Association was created and designed to articulate and promote the professional needs and goals of Black law students; to foster and encourage professional competence; to focus upon the relationship of the Black attorney to the American legal system; to instill in the Black attorney and law student a greater awareness of and commitment to the needs of the Black community; to utilize their expertise to initiate a change within the legal system that will make it more responsive to the needs and concerns of the Black community; to do any and all things necessary and lawful for the accomplishment of these goals.

You should know that we are genuinely excited at even the prospect of you joining us for your law school career. The next couple of years of your life will be full of decisions. You, like all of us, decided that Cumberland is the law school for you - it is where you will achieve your goals, succeed academically, and exceed your personal expectations. Now that you have decided to join us at Cumberland School of LAw, we want to encourage you to join the Black Law Students Association. We are an organization full of resources, integrity, and pride. We strive to be one of the most influential organizations at Cumberland. As part of your path to success here, we hope that you will consider joining Cumberland's chapter of the Black Law Students Association.

We are committed to assisting with students' academic, social and transitional needs. BLSA members are welcoming, understanding, and we serve as a support system and resource for each other. The first year of law school requires the most adjustment and BLSA members want to make first year students' transition to law school as smooth as possible. Our commitment, however, does not end at your first year. We are committed and invested in each other's success and rely on each other for the duration of our law school careers. Having a support group that extends from our Dean to BLSA members is essential to your success in law school. I can promise you that you will find virtually no other support system like that offered at Cumberland School of Law.
