[Proposal to Instruct a Continuing Education Course]

The success of the Samford After Sundown program and its students is in great part due to the participation of its instructors. These fine community members are sharing their talents with us this Spring 2005 term:

Mark Baggett, Ph.D, J.D., Associate professor of English and Law, Samford University.

Ron Bowen, award-winning photographer and instructor since 1978.

Ken Boyd, M.B.A., award-winning publisher, photographer, and writer.

Daniel Brooks, M.A; director, Arlington Antebellum Home and gardens, Birmingham.

Judy Carter, B.A.; 18 years experience as a designer working in both residential and commercial settings; founder and owner of J Carter & Co, Inc, design firm, featured in Birmingham Business Journal.

Michael Catoe, B.A., Musical degree in Theory and Composition. He is an experienced musician and arranger, having contributed to 3 CD’s in recent years, has performed as part of a touring band for 5 years, and has taught private and group guitar lessons for several years.

Roger Cole, M.M., M. Div.; Resident of Latin America for 22 years; experienced translator; Spanish language and culture teacher.

Carl DelFavaro; B.A.; published photographer, author and aquarist; experienced in both photojournalism and nature photography.

Mary Delo, experienced translator, French language and culture teacher.

Mark DiGiorgio, owner, Scuba Ventures, Inc., local scuba outfitter. Experienced scuba instructor and guide.

Angela Ferguson, M.A., Associate Professor, World Languages Dept, Samford University. Has received both Fulbright and DAAD awards to study in Germany. Specializes in German literature and poetics, and sponsors Samford’s German Club.

Wayne Flynt, Ph.D, Professor Emeritus of History, Auburn University, Editor-in-Chief of the new Online Encyclopedia of Alabama, Pulitzer-Prize-nominated author of 11 books, and a leading authority on Alabama history and Baptist history in Alabama.  A 2005 inductee into the Communication Hall of Fame.

Paul H Franklin, B.A., Photographer, naturalist, writer and lecturer, with work published locally, nationally, and internationally; columnist for the Birmingham News, and director of Samford After Sundown. 

Simon Gitchuru, founder and owner, Digital Peak, Inc.; Apple-certified trainer.

Martha Gonzales, B.S.; Native of Mexico, experienced instructor in both Spanish and English languages; graduate of Samford’s Heath-Care Interpreter training Program.

B. Ernie Gates, B.S., Samford IT specialist. Has 23 years of experience building, repairing, and upgrading computers.

Steve Higginbotham, an active photographer with over 30 years experience at two commercial photo labs; expertise in 35mm, medium- and large-format photography, as well as both black-and-white and digital printing techniques.

Phillip Inman, M.B.A.; Retirement Planning Specialist, Benchmark Advisors, LLC.

Margaret King, M.A; experienced French and Italian language instructor.

Suzanne King, specialist in children’s portraiture and abstract photography, noted for her artistic approach to photography.

Cathy Teal Johnson, Ed.S, M.H.S; 30 years experience in teaching Spanish; extensive travel and study abroad.

Mike Neilson; Ph.D; Professor emeritus of geology, University of Alabama at Birmingham; award-winning digital photographer, web designer; founder of Mike Neilson Images.

Denise Obregon, B.S; experienced Spanish and ESL instructor; graduate of Samford’s Health-Care Interpreter Training Program.

Larry Quick; M.Ag.; Executive Director, Aldridge Botanical Gardens; former County Extension Agent.

John Reaves, B.S.; International Association of Master Penmen and Engrossers.

Kim Riegel, M.A.; owner of Kim Riegel Photography; published photographer; experienced photography exhibitor.

Kathy Sheridan, B.A.; professional graphic artist and experienced Photoshop instructor.

Jo Sims, B.A., Experienced Spanish instructor and tutor.
