Dawson Memorial Baptist Church

Dawson

Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, has partnered with the Samford University Center for Science and Religion on this project. Located in Homewood, Alabama (a suburb of Birmingham), Dawson was organized in 1920 and has a congregation of over 5000 members. Four Sunday morning worship services in English (traditional and contemporary) and one in Spanish are supplemented by regular Sunday morning Bible study for all age groups, an extensive mid-week training program, a vibrant music ministry, community outreach, and an active missions program that involves Dawson members locally and world-wide. In addition to local and national projects, mission destinations include Honduras, Haiti, Southeast Asia, Ecuador, Sudan, Brazil, Peru, Swaziland, and the Ukraine. Over 1000 children attend Dawson’s summer “Kidlife” week, many of whom are not members of Dawson families. The Dawson staff has been led for over twenty years by senior pastor Dr. Gary Fenton. In addition to an executive and an associate pastor, Dawson ministers assisting Dr. Fenton in leading the congregation include ministers of spiritual formation, Christian education, evangelism and missions, Hispanic ministry, music, recreation, stewardship, health and wellness, plus age specific ministers to preschoolers, children and preteens, middle school, high school and college, young adults, and senior adults.
