What You’ll Likely Be Asked For
Application processes are likely to vary from program to program and each fellowship/scholarship will have its own application form. However, committees generally ask for:
A transcript and record of extracurricular activities Two or more letters of recommendation A personal statement or letter of intent
Different programs may also ask for:
Project proposal or study plan Interview
Thoroughly read all application instructions and don’t hesitate to contact the program if you have questions.
Finally, be aware that these fellowships look for qualifications that are developed or acquired over time. Leadership roles, extracurricular activities and engagement with the scholarly and local community are all factored into committees’ decisions. Therefore, you should begin this longer-term preparation process as soon as possible. Examine the application materials and other information about the program with an eye towards identifying qualifications for winning candidates. Then think about what steps you can take in the coming semesters to match yourself to these qualifications. The “application process” is much more than simply filling in a form!
