Loraine Hendrix was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to deaf parents. She was raised using ASL as her primary language and her family was immersed in deaf culture. She has a B.S. in Elementary Education, M.A.Ed. in Education and a Specialist degree in Education, all from Mississippi College. She also holds a M.A.Ed. in Human Development from Hardin-Simmons University and a Certification in Deaf Education. She has taught ASL classes at LSU-Alexandria, Hardin-Simmons University and McMurry University. She also taught deaf children in public schools in Louisiana. She enjoys reading, crafting and spending time with her family, which includes four grandchildren.
