Howard College of Arts and Sciences invites all alumni, family and friends to join us for the college's Homecoming tailgate event on the Quad from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Meal cost is $5 per person at tailgate entrance. RSVP to sgay@samford.edu or (205) 726-2174 by Wednesday, October 10, so we'll prepare enough food.

We will be serving Dr. Randy Todd’s famous Boston Butts, smoked all night before the tailgate, a few side dishes, and desserts courtesy of the college's annual faculty and staff recipe competition.

In addition to tailgating, we will be celebrating a few accomplishments within the college.

· Many of you know that Dr. Stephen Chew, Chair of the Psychology Department, won the 2011 U.S. Professor of the Year Award by CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education). We invite you to come by to say hello to Dr. Chew and congratulate him on his accomplishments.

· Dr. Rod Davis, former Dean of the College, recently announced his retirement from Samford. Please come by and congratulate him on this so-called “retirement.” We also invite you back on campus for the 2012 J. Roderick Davis Lecture Series.

· Dr. Randy Todd, Founder and Chair of the Classics Department, was recently honored with the John H. Buchanan Award for Excellence in the Classroom. Please come by to congratulate him on this prestigious university award.

Also at the tailgate, you can further honor these outstanding scholars and teachers with gifts to the scholarship funds of the departments of Psychology and Classics, and to the J. Roderick Davis Lecture Series. Give online by designating your preference(s) here, or via mail at: Samford University Office of University Advancement; 800 Lakeshore Drive; Birmingham, AL 35229.
