What do you think is the best thing about Cumberland School of Law?

Community. At the end of my first summer of work, my coworkers were dreading the inevitable start of law school. However, the Cumberland students were excited to go back. Our collegial atmosphere and general desire to see each other succeed, create a school environment that is very enjoyable to be a part of.

Why did you choose Cumberland School of Law?

Law school is three years of your life. I wanted to go somewhere that I could be with people that had a desire to be the best attorney they could be but also focused on what was important: family, friends, and life in general. Cumberland offered a community that allowed you to achieve your career aspirations while also enjoying the experience. I could not have known just how true this sentiment was until I arrived.

What do you most enjoy about studying law in Birmingham? What do you like to do in Birmingham?

Birmingham has an incredible access to the Southern legal market. Large firms downtown offer nationwide opportunities to work on highly sophisticated subjects. This is partly because the city in itself is in the center of the South, only three hours from Atlanta or Nashville, and only a bit further to cities such as Tampa, Charlotte, or Dallas. A large legal presence in the city offers many networking opportunities and events that simply cannot be found at other law schools. In addition, various restaurants and venues make the city a great place for young professionals.

Student Organizations/Extracurricular Activities

Joint JD/MBA, Trial Journal, Federalist Society, First Generation Lawyers, Cumberland Committee for Student Athlete Resiliency (C-CSAR), Cordell Hull Speakers Forum, Alabama Student Bar, Christian Legal Society, Sports and Entertainment Law Society, Admission Ambassadors.

If you could give any advice to your pre-law school self, what would you say?

Try new things. A lot of us come to law school with some idea of what we want to do, but there is no telling how many doors can be opened during law school. Maintaining an open mind creates many opportunities that students didn’t necessarily expect to have but may completely change what one wants to do with the rest of their life.

What do you plan to do after graduation?

I plan to work at a firm in the city of Birmingham in the emerging business sector. I love this city, its legal community, and am excited about the prospect of being a part of it.
