Jack is a National Merit Commended Scholar and a member of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society. He is the current director of TEDxSamfordU and a member of the Science and Religion Club. During his freshman year, he received an award for a paper on early American history from the Birmingham Center of Colonial Dames of America. Last summer, Jack participated in an NC State, National Science Foundation sponsored, Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program in mechanical engineering, and during the fall semester of 2016, he studied abroad with Samford in London. Jack will be participating in an REU this summer at the University of Alabama in aerospace engineering and looks forward to presenting the research he conducted at NC State in the dynamic testing of composites at the SAMPE conference in Seattle in May. In addition to his academic pursuits, Jack spent a month in Ouanaminthe, Haiti, doing missions and humanitarian work and he would like to further the Gospel of Christ by getting involved in college ministry and leading groups of young people on short-term trips overseas. In the future, Jack plans to go to graduate school and earn his Ph.D. in aerospace engineering with the goal of working in R&D, and he hopes to one day teach at a university.
