Hometown: Cumming, GeorgiaRay has been an office assistant for the University Fellows Program since his freshman year and is a founding member of the Science and Religion Club. Ray also participates in Samford’s chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery and is a member of the Catholic Student Association. His freshman year, Ray was inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, was honored with the distinction of being named the best first-year math major by the math department, and received the Ruric E. Wheeler Medal for being named to the Dean’s List for both semesters. He has been named to the Dean’s List every semester since then, and has been named the best second-year math major and has received the Seal Medal because of it. For the past three years, Ray has competed with Spectrum’s Step Sing group and has served on the group’s committee this past year. This year, he has been inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi and Omicron Delta Kappa honor societies and has been awarded the Tower Medal for academic excellence. He also attended the Mathematical Association of America’s Southeastern Conference this semester. Ray now serves as an ambassador for the Howard College of Arts and Sciences and as a member of the Fellows’ leadership council. He has been a Virtues preceptor in the Fall 2016 semester and is excited to preceptor Virtues for a second time in the fall. For the past two summers, Ray served as a preceptor for the Great Ideas and Quantitative Finance Summer Institutes. In addition, last summer he conducted research on ternary quadratic forms with Dr. Patane in the math department through the ASPIRE research grant. This summer, Ray plans on being a preceptor for GISI again as well as working as an intern at Hibbett Sports in the IT department.
