The Daniel House Residence Director position requires an experienced, live-in, full-time professional staff member for managing the day-to-day operations of the Daniel House, while creating a positive residential living-learning environment for residents.  Approximately 150 Samford students study in London during four different academic terms.  The Daniel House Residence Director is responsible for the continued management and maintenance of the house, student life supervision, health and welfare of students, administrative and financial management operations, and implementation of long-term strategic and programmatic goals as established by the Global Engagement Office.  Required:  full-time residency at the Daniel House

Duties include:

Facilities Management:

  • Maintain all building operations
  • Liaise with both the building inspector and the Global Engagement Office concerning maintenance of the facility; perform routine building inspections
  • Monitor and maintain building supplies
  • Perform routine fire safety drills, safety trainings, and other orientations as mandated by UK law and Samford
  • Liaise with all vendors including house cleaning personnel, travel agents, routine and emergency maintenance providers

Student Services:

  • Monitor and nurture the physical and emotional well-being of the Daniel House residents
  • Serve as in-country risk manager and assist students with health and safety concerns by liaising with CISI insurance, parents, and other appropriate parties
  • In case of student illness, accidents, housing problems, or other personal difficulties, initiate action with appropriate health care personnel or authorities and be prepared to act as counselor, adviser, University official, and mediator in a crises
  • Supervise student leaders and London Resident Assistants
  • Communicate code of conduct and take appropriate action when necessary in conjunction with proper university personnel
  • Plan and implement social programming for residents on a regular basis
  • Assist with home campus recruitment, student enrollments, and pre-departure orientations
  • Be an active participant in the Daniel House community


  • In working with the Global Engagement Office, plan and budget physical and financial resources
  • Submit monthly and annual invoices for approval, payment, and follow up as necessary to ensure vendor payment
  • Arrange airport transfers for incoming and outgoing student groups
  • Coordinate and implement comprehensive orientation programs for students and faculty in consultation with Program Administrator
  • Assist in developing and maintaining emergency preparedness processes and crisis response plan
  • Facilitate application of compliance regulations as directed by the University, including but not limited to Clery Reporting
  • Monitor visitors to the house, including guest stay times
  • Coordinate the scheduling of the facility in consultation with the Program Administrator
Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years' working in an education residential environment (higher education preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree

  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations in a calm manner
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration or closely related field
