Recommendation Letters

A recommendation letter from an alumna or initiated member is also known as a "rec letter." While it is not required to have a rec letter for recruitment, if you are interested in submitting rec letters, one letter per chapter is ideal. More than two rec letters per chapter is excessive. You do not have to have a recommendation letter to receive a bid to membership.

National Pan-Hellenic Council

Currently, two active NPHC organizations, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., participate in membership intake. Two NPHC organizations, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. have plans to re-establish their chapters this fall semester. Intake is a process delaying membership until a collegiate GPA is established. The individual requirements for participation in intake/to join are different for each chapter, but you can expect these generalities:

  • 12 - 24 Samford credit hours required.
  • 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher required.
  • Need several recommendation letters. The chapters will provide specific information.
  • Demonstrate community service.
  • Illustrate campus involvement.

See the finances page to learn more details about the cost of each NPHC chapter.
