Cardiopulmonary Sciences Welcome

Welcome to the Department of Cardiopulmonary Sciences at Samford University!  We are a new and growing program in the School of Health Professions and have much to offer those seeking to use their gifts and talents in a health professions career.  We believe everyone has one vocational calling that is fulfilled through many possible occupational roles.  Our commitment is to help you integrate your faith with skilled practice for the lifelong renewing of your mind and spiritual growth.

Below are answers to some of the questions we are frequently asked about our programs:

What will classes be like?  You will have a combination of lecture, laboratory and clinical courses that are taken in sequence with the same group of students.

Where will clinical rotations occur?  Most clinical sites are in the Birmingham area and students must have reliable transportation.  It may be necessary to visit a more distant site such as Tuscaloosa or Huntsville but that would still be within about an hour drive of the Samford University campus.

How do I know if respiratory care is the right choice for me?  This is a common question for all the health professions.  It is one of the reasons we have prospective students observe a practicing respiratory therapist in action.  We are glad to discuss the questions you have about the profession, options for specialization and advanced career opportunities.

The educational experience in our programs is designed to develop highly proficient students who are equipped to face the remarkable ethical challenges faced in modern health care.  Our special combination of team learning, high-fidelity simulation training, investigation of real clinical questions and exceptional clinical experiences in the context of a Christian environment will make you stand-out for the right reasons.  We welcome the opportunity to get to know you.
