Laura Promer joined the department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in 2014 and is the Director of Undergraduate Studies and the NSSLHA chapter advisor. Laura received her Bachelor's in Education from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and earned her Master’s in Communication Disorders at the University of Alabama. Mrs. Promer is an Associate in the Academy of Orton Gillingham Practitioners and Educators and is a certified Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist (SLDI) through the International Dyslexia Association. She founded Communication and Reading Therapies in 2001 where she evaluates and treats language, reading, writing and related disorders. In addition, Mrs. Promer is an American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certified Speech-Language Pathologist and a continuing education administrator for ASHA. Her primary areas of interest are language-based reading disorders and cultural and linguistic diversity. Mrs. Promer’s current projects include determining the incidence of co-occurring speech/language and reading/writing disorders.
