Eight cadets in Samford University's Air Force ROTC Detachment 012 were commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Air Force during May 21 ceremonies at Samford. The newly commissioned officers are spring graduates of their respective schools. They are: Lauren E. Cliatt of Columbus, Miss., University of Alabama at Birmingham; Ashley N. Cullop of Newnan, Ga., Samford; Mark C. Holmes of Niceville, Fla., Samford; Jessica D. Long of Fort Rucker, UAB; John A. McElroy of Douglasville, Ga., Samford; Frederick M. O'Mara of Birmingham, Samford's Cumberland School of Law; Sarah B. Overby of Lascassas, Tenn., Samford; and Brandon C. Stanley of Birmingham, Samford.

Samford's Air Force ROTC Detachment 012 includes cadets who are enrolled as students at six Birmingham area colleges and universities.
