The Samford University math department will host about 440 area high school students who will compete for regional math honors on Saturday (March 28).

Students from Chilton, Jefferson, Shelby and Walker counties will compete for team and individual honors based on algebra and trigonometry, geometry and comprehensive exams.

The District IV contest is sponsored by the Alabama Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Alabama Association of College Teachers of Mathematics.

Top winners in Saturday's written exams will participate in statewide competition in April.
