Samford University’s School of the Arts presents The Crucible March 23–26 in Harrison Theatre. The production is part of the university’s Michael J. and Mary Anne Freeman Theatre and Dance Series.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. March 23–25 and 2:30 p.m. March 26.

Arthur Miller’s The Crucible is a passionate allegory on courage and justice in a world fraught with greed and vengeance. Set against the backdrop of the Salem witch trials, Miller created one of the landmark works of American theatre from his experiences related to the McCarthy hearings in 1952.

According to Don Sandley, Department of Theatre and Dance chair, “This season has been an exploration of our student’s versatility. We have intentionally sought to present a wide range of genres to highlight just how much talent and preparation our students are capable of. With The Crucible, we take on an American classic, and a play with social and political themes that seem more relevant now than ever. I hope our audiences are moved to thought and prayer by the power of this play.”

The theatre and dance season will round out the year with a musical theatre new works initiative Pretty Funny April 6–9 and then the One-Act Festival May 4. More than 110 students have participated in the variety of productions this year that have showcased talent from across the Samford campus.

Tickets are available online or through the Samford Box Office, 205-726-2853.
