Beeson Divinity School’s Lay Academy of Theology has announced new courses for Spring 2018. Centered around the theme, “The Deep Things of God,” the courses can help students discover an intimacy with God that leads to faithful discipleship. All Lay Academy courses are taught by divinity faculty. 

Evening classes will start Feb. 26 with Twelve Decisive Events in the Bible. Ken Mathews will provide students with a survey of the biblical story that focuses on twelve pivotal moments in salvation history. 

Starting Feb. 27, Gerald McDermott will teach The Jewish Jesus. Students will explore the relationship between Jesus and Judaism while attempting to answer the question, “Is the Church the new Israel?” 

For six Thursday nights beginning March 1, Allen Ross will lead students through passages in the Pentateuch that foreshadow God’s full revelation in Christ in Gospel in the Books of Moses. 

The Lay Academy of Theology also offers weekday courses taught by Doug Webster and Gerald Bray. Webster’s course, Followers of the Lamb: Living in Rhythm with the Book of Revelation, begins March 1.

Bray’s course, The Pastoral Epistles, began Jan. 24, taking students through First and Second Timothy and Titus. 

Since 2001, Beeson’s Lay Academy has offered these non-credit courses to clergy and laity alike who are looking for a richer understanding of the Bible, theology, or church history.
