Samford University recognized 1,720 years of service during the annual employee service awards luncheon Jan. 18. A total of 146 employees were honored.

Samford traces its history to men and women who advocated for a Christian college 176 years ago, said Joel Windham, Samford’s assistant vice president for human resources. "Samford employees have a legacy of leaving Samford a better place," said Windham, who emceed the program.

Law professor Brad Bishop was honored for his 50 years on the faculty, the majority of which have been at Samford’s Cumberland School of Law. Bishop joined Samford in 1967 as director of forensics and coached debate for several years before joining the law faculty in 1971.

"Brad has been a phenomenal teacher over the years, winning a variety of teaching awards including those voted on by students," said Cumberland Dean "Corky" Strickland. In addition, Bishop has chaired multiple committees. "In committee meetings there was always plenty of noise in the room until Brad began to speak, then everyone quieted down to hear what he had to say."

Network Group director Glenn Schneider of Samford’s Technology Services department was honored for his 35 years of service. "Schneider was part of the team that installed the original, modern Ethernet network at Samford," noted Tim McRae of technology services. "He was responsible for installing our current wireless network that started in 2001.He now has responsibility for a wireless network with over 1,400 wireless access points serving Wi-Fi to the campus." 

Employees recognized for 30 years were Mark Baggett. law and arts and sciences; William Collins, arts and sciences; Sandra Long, accounting and financial services; David Smolin, law; and Alvin Wright, technology services.

Honored for 25 years of service were Steven Epley, Jane Hiles and Lynda Jentsch, arts and sciences; Linda Killingsworth, pharmacy; and Jeannie Krumdieck, arts.

Fifteen employees received 20-year service awards, including Kim Benner and Sandra Boyken, pharmacy; Scott Camp, marketing and communication; Jeff Flaniken and Don Sandley, arts; Eric Fournier, assessment; Janie Kennedy and Heather West, arts and sciences; Teresa Mauldin and Deborah Young, law; Gretchen McDaniel, nursing; Jimmie McDowell and Tim McRae, technology services; and Robert Smith and Robert Willis, divinity.

Recognized for 15 years of service were Ilaina Andrews and Joe Parker, pharmacy; Cindy Berry, nursing; James  Carlson and Anthony Yelton, athletics; Candia Cole, health professions; Jonathan Davis and Michele Haralson, education; Sherry Davis, bursar’s office; Shannon Flynt, Brian Gregory, Scott McGinnis, Rhonda Parker, Keith Putt and Charles Workman, arts and sciences; Kathryn Fouse, arts; Lori Hill, university advancement; Betsy Holloway, marketing and communication; Lisa Imbragulio, business affairs; Stephen Inman, public safety; Danielle Johnson, decision support and financial strategy; Jane Leask, registrar’s office; Randy McKinney, accounting and financial services; Lori Northrup, university library; and Allen Ross, divinity.
