Homecoming family

If you would enjoy a glimpse into your grandchild’s Samford University experience, this day is for you. Samford University will host its first-ever Grandparents Day April 28. Grandparents Day is open to grandparents of current Samford undergraduates.

Samford grandparents will meet and hear from Samford administrators, tour special spaces across campus, and leave campus with a better understanding of Samford’s academic rigor and commitment to its Christian mission.

Space is limited to the first 100 grandparent registrants, according to Susan Doyle, Samford’s director of parent programs and the coordinator for Grandparents Day. Other family members can accompany grandparent guests to campus but are asked to limit attendance to lunch and the ballgame so seats in the morning sessions are available for grandparents. Attendees must be able to walk short distances and navigate a small number of stairs, Doyle emphasized.

Activities will begin with check-in from 8-8:45 a.m. and conclude with the 2 p.m. Samford baseball game vs. Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.

The cost of $25 per grandparent includes registration materials, lunch, on-campus transportation, and tickets to the afternoon Samford baseball game. Students may join grandparents for lunch at no charge. Additional lunch guests are $8.60 a person.

Online registration will be available at Samford.edu/parents March 5 through April 22 or when the maximum limit 100 grandparents have registered.

Specific details regarding parking and check-in will be emailed ahead to registrants, Doyle added.

“Grandparents are an important part of life, and we realize that many grandparents are actively involved in the lives of our Samford students,” Doyle said. “Because family is part of the Samford ethos, we want to celebrate grandparents with our students.”
