Abraham Kuruvilla, senior research professor of Preaching and Pastoral Ministries of Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS), will deliver the annual William E. Conger Jr. Lectures on Biblical Preaching at Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School, Feb. 19-21.

Kuruvilla is a respected and distinguished scholar of homiletics, having written eight books and served as the past president of the Evangelical Homiletics Society.

He will speak on the intricacies of the interpretive movement from Scripture to sermon each day at 11 a.m.. On Tuesday, Feb. 19, he will preach a sermon on 1 Samuel 17 entitled, “Fighting the Good Fight” in Hodges Chapel as part of the school’s weekly community worship service. On Wednesday, Feb. 20, he will present a lecture entitled, “Reading Scripture for Application: A New World,” and on Thursday, Feb. 21, he will lecture on “Reading Scripture for Application: A New Image,” both lectures taking place in Divinity N-101.

Kuruvilla also will present a special lecture entitled, “Sole Passion: The Christian and Celibacy,” on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in Samford’s Dwight Beeson Hall’s Brock Forum. Single by choice, he has a special interest in the theology of Christ-centered singleness and celibacy.

The Conger Lectures honor the memory of the late Col. William E. Conger, Jr., a retired military officer who served as a close personal advisor to Beeson Divinity School founding benefactor Ralph W. Beeson. These lectures are presented in the fervent prayer and hope that they will enlighten the preacher's skill, but above all, stir the preacher's soul, so God Himself may shine "in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ" (1 Cor. 4:6).

These lectures are free and open to the public.
