For decades, Samford University’s McWhorter School of Pharmacy has offered continuing education programs for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, but for the first time, the school will offer its fall schedule of CE events completely online.

“We value the opportunity to engage with our alumni and fellow pharmacists in the Southeast through our in-person events, but with COVID-19, we’ve had to adjust, prioritizing the needs of everyone involved,” said John Arnold, professor and director of non-degree programs at McWhorter School of Pharmacy. “When it is safe to, we look forward to gathering together again.”

The greatest benefit of this online format is the opportunity for alumni across the country to participate, engaging once again with their former professors and peers.

“In the state of Alabama—and with many states across the country—pharmacists are still expected to receive the same number of CE credits by the end of the year. We are offering a full schedule to support pharmacists in meeting this requirement. Knowing this year has brought many challenges, we don’t want earning your CE credits to be one of them,” Arnold said.

The fall schedule for CE events includes:

  • Sterile Products Certification in September
  • Consultant Pharmacist Program in September
  • Medication Safety for the Pharmacy Technician in October
  • Developments and Trends in Health Care Law in October
  • The Homecoming CE Program in November
  • New Drug Update in December

More information can be found at samford.edu/pharmacy/continuing-education. Registration opens a month prior to each event. To be notified when registration is open, we encourage you to sign up for our emails.

In addition to its fall schedule, McWhorter School of Pharmacy is also offering free continuing education courses through Canvas, replete with information about the COVID-19 pandemic. These educational opportunities are intended to provide concise and focused information relating to COVID-19 that is of interest to pharmacists. While these courses are free, you are required to login using an active email address.
