During his senior year in high school, Sam served as the editor-in-chief of the school newspaper and as the communications officer/executive of the Civic Service Organization. He was selected by the faculty and administration to act as an ambassador, representing the school at events and prospective student tours. A National Merit Finalist, Sam was also a member of several honorary societies including Cum Laude Society. Athletically, Sam was a member of the state champion varsity swim team, the water polo team, and the junior varsity golf team. Outside of school, he participated in community service events and attended church youth group. At Samford, Sam has already become very involved during his first year. In the Fellows Program, he is a member of the University Fellows Recruitment Council. Outside the program, he is a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity where he served as Pledge Class President and currently serves as the Philanthropy Chairman. Additionally, Sam is the Vice-President of Alpha Lambda Delta, the freshman honor society. He also participates in the Samford Golf Club and Swim Club. During the week, Sam volunteers several hours at the Greater Birmingham Humane Society. Following graduation from Samford, Sam plans to pursue a law degree.
