After finishing up their internship recruiting and educating on Teach for America, Jillian worked this past summer at the University of Texas at Arlington’s Planetarium, the third largest dome in Texas, as the director of social media and marketing and received the award for Excellence in Multiculturalism and the Nikki Murphy Memorial Scholarship from Delta Xi Phi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. at their annual national conference. In their last year at Samford, Jillian is the Chair of SGA’s Multicultural Affairs Committee, Vice President and Alumni Chair of the Omega Chapter of Delta Xi Phi, a student advisor for Samford University College Democrats, External Vice President for the provisional LGBTQ+ organization PRISM, Vice President of Order of Omega, and on the leadership board of Sigma Tau Delta. They will also be working her first year as an intern in the Samford Conservatory and her second year in the Communication Resource Centre as a writing consultant. Jillian has also participated in the 2018-2019 Howard Scholars programme, helped plan the 2018 and 2019 AAUW ALA-WSL conferences, been inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha, Gamma Sigma Alpha, Alpha Lambda Delta, and Order of Omega honour society, and was recognized in 2017 as an Exemplary University Woman in Public Service by the Alabama House of Representatives. Following graduation, Jillian hopes to pursue an MFA in Creative Writing with a focus in Poetry before PhDs focused on studying the construction of masculinity and male-centred sexualities in nineteenth century transatlantic literature and the gender-essentialist rhetoric in national security legislation pre- and post-9/11.
