Samford Gallery Hours:  Monday through Friday,  9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (not open holidays or school breaks).


JUNE 25-JULY 31   TIRELESS SHIFTER: RECENT WORK BY DOUG BARRETT

Doug Barrett is an art faculty member at UAB and has been a graphic designer for more than two decades. Barrett will be exhibiting some of his innovative new artworks.

 AUGUST 22- SEPTEMBER 25   BEING HERE. Modern Paintings in Post Modern Times by RICHARD DENDY   

Oil and gouache paintings executed from life, on site.  These paintings seek to record time and place, and also, by heightening element, to engage the viewer in the act of painting itself.  Richard Dendy is a member of the Samford Art Faculty.

OCTOBER 1-29   GUM BICHROMATE AND OTHER PHOTOGRAPHS BY JONATHAN PURVIS   

Jonathan Purvis specializes in gum bichromate printmaking which is a 19thcentury photographic method.  Purvis sometimes prints his images on braille paper. Jonathan Purvis’s art lies somewhere between printmaking and photography.  The artist also is acclaimed for his series of photos of Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth.

NOVEMBER 5-30   SCULPTURE BY MICHAEL AURBACH   

Michael Aurbach is an artist-educator who teaches sculpture and drawing at Vanderbilt  University . His socially inspired works have been exhibited at universities,museums, and galleries throughout the United States.

DECEMBER 5    GRAPHIC DESIGN PROFESSIONAL REVIEW  

Graduating seniors in graphic design present their senior project to a panel of regional professional graphic designers.  The review process is open for observation and begins at 5:30 PM (Classes end December 7)


DECEMBER 10-15   GRADUATING SENIOR ART EXHIBITION  

Graduating seniors will display their senior projects for professor and professional review and for the community to see.

JANUARY 28-FEBRUARY28   RECENT WORKS BY JAMES JOSH PICKENS    

James Joshua Pickens currently lives in Albany, New York.  For the past two years he has served as Assistant Professor of Art at Howard Payne University.  His current work involves painting, woodblock printing, and sculpture.  He received a BA in Studio Art from Ouachita Baptist University and a MFA in printmaking from the University of Arkansas.  


MARCH 4-14   VISUAL ARTS ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM JURIED EXHIBITION  

The Samford Art Department will again be hosting a middle and high school student art exhibition and scholarship competition for District VI-A  sponsored by the Alabama State Council on the Arts and coordinated by Dr. Mary Ann Culotta.

APRIL 2-26   SAMFORD ART STUDENT ANNUAL JURIED SHOW   

Art students will submit their matted and display ready art for juror selection March 25-26 from 9 AM to 4 PM.   All students that have taken art courses in the art department within the last year are eligible to submit their art.  Artwork not selected by the juror will be returned to students March 28.  Show opens April 1.  

RECEPTION AND ANNOUNCEMENT OF AWARDS APRIL  25   4-6 PM


MAY 7    GRAPHIC DESIGN PROFESSIONAL REVIEW

Graduating seniors with a concentration in graphic design present their senior project toa panel of regional professional graphic designers.  This review process is open for observation and will begin at 5:30 PM
