About the Children's Learning Center

Letter Regarding CLC Closing

  In the early 1990's, a group of concerned parents and educators gathered to discuss the need for a special kind of learning center for young children. The center would serve as a model, state-of-the-art early learning center for students and faculty in a variety of disciplines. After eight years of dreaming, planning and constructing, the Children's Learning Center at Samford University became a reality on July 1, 1998.

The center is nestled in a clearing in the woods adjacent to the main Samford campus on South Lakeshore Drive (between Homewood High School and the Homewood Armory).

Outstanding characteristics that define the Children's Learning Center include:

• an award winning facility,
• a unique child-adult interaction plan, with a low teacher to child ratio,
• a process for addressing inclusive education, and
• a developmentally appropriate curriculum focusing on learning and creative arts.
