Traditional 4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Prospective undergraduate students who desire to enter the traditional 4-year BSN program at the Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing must apply to Samford University first. Upon acceptance to the University, Samford’s Office of Admission will mail a nursing application to you, which you must complete and submit to the School of Nursing. Applications are reviewed on a monthly basis. A student who received a D or F in a nursing course from another institution will not be considered for admission to the School of Nursing.

Freshmen applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Also required is a minimum composite ACT score of 21 or a minimum composite SAT score of 1000, no more than 5 years old. Transfer applicants must have a minimum 2.7 (cumulative) on all college work attempted and a minimum composite ACT score of 21 or a minimum composite SAT score of 1000, no more than 5 years old OR:

  • minimum 3.0 (cumulative) on all college work attempted on 24 credits or more, with no ACT or SAT score required
  • 2.0 (each) on general education courses required for the nursing curriculum.

Second Degree BSN (5-Semester)

Prospective undergraduate students who desire to enter the Second Degree BSN (5-Semesters) program must apply to Samford University. Upon acceptance to the University, Samford’s Office of Admission will mail a nursing application to you. A student who received a D or F in a nursing course from another institution will not be considered for admission to the School of Nursing. Minimum GPA requirements for the Second Degree BSN Option are:

  • 2.7 (cumulative) on all college work attempted
  • 2.3 (cumulative) on required science courses (chemistry, anatomy, physiology, and microbiology)
  • 2.0 (each) on general education courses required for the nursing curriculum.
  • No ACT or SAT scores are required
  • Program begins each Fall

Accelerated Second Degree BSN (15-Month) is an accelerated opportunity for individuals who already hold a baccalaureate degree in a field of study other than nursing.  Upon graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, the student is eligible to write the licensing examination for registered nurses [NCLEX-RN]. A student who received a D or F in a nursing course from another institution will not be considered for admission to the School of Nursing.

Our Fall 2009 class is closed. Important Dates for 2010:

  • Completed Application Packet Deadline: March 1st, 2010
  • Interviews: TBA
  • Letters offering admission to be mailed: TBA
  • Written acceptance deadline with $250 deposit: TBA

Minimum GPA requirements for the Accelerated Second Degree BSN Option are:

Applicants are considered on a competitive basis by the School of Nursing; thus, applicants’ admission profiles are evaluated according to stated admission criteria.

Prospective undergraduate students who desire to enter the Accelerated Second Degree BSN (15-month) program must submit an application packet directly to the School of Nursing.

The application packet (not in a binder) must include the following items and be mailed to:

  • School of Nursing Accelerated Second Degree Program application
  • Non-refundable application fee of $35. The fee is waived for Samford graduates and previous applicants. Make checks payable to Samford University.
  • Signed copy of Performance Standards
  • Current Photo
  • Two official transcripts of all colleges and universities previously attended. You must request that these transcripts be mailed directly to you.
  • Three completed recommendation forms.  The forms must be submitted in sealed envelopes signed across the seal by the recommender.  The three recommendations required are: one academic, one personal, and one professional. (An additional professional recommendation may be submitted if an academic recommendation is not readily available.) Recommendations should attest to the applicant’s academic ability and potential.

The following criteria are also necessary for admission consideration:

  • Personal interview with member of the Accelerated Second Degree Program faculty.
  • International applicants or American citizens who learned English as a second language must score at least 550 (paper), 213 (computer) or 80 (internet) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
  • Important Dates for 2010:

    • Admission status letters mailed by April 15, 2010
    • Written acceptance deadline with $250 deposit: April 30, 2010
