Configure Bulldog Mail for 3rd Party Clients
Before completing the following instructions, you will need to enable IMAP from your BulldogMail account.
To enable IMAP in BulldogMail:
- Go to http://bulldogmail.samford.edu and log in.
- Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page.
- Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
- Select Enable IMAP.
- Click Save Changes.
Once you have saved the changes, you can now open Thunderbird
From within Thunderbird, click on Tools and then Account Settings
Click Account Actions and Add Mail Account
Enter your first and last name, email address, and password, then click Continue
Thunderbird will attempt to autodetect your email account settings. Once this is complete, click Edit.
Make sure that you use your full Samford email address as the username.
Enter in IMAP.gmail.com as the incoming server name, and set the server type to IMAP. Set the port number to 993 and the authentication to STARTTLS.
Then click Create Account
Click on Outgoing Server (SMTP) and then click Add.
Enter in a description for the outgoing server. Then enter the servername SMTP.gmail.com.
You will need to set the port number to 587.
Check the box to Use name and password. Then enter your full Samford email address as the username.
Set the connection security to STARTTLS.
Click OK.
Click OK on the Account Settings window.
Thunderbird should now begin downloading your email.
