Biographical Information

Kara Kennedy, a native of Birmingham, has worked extensively in the areas of Public Relations, media and marketing, and is currently the Director of the External Affairs of Samford’s Brock School of Business. Shortly after joining the Brock School of Business in June of 2007,she headed the PR team that implemented the successful strategy to brand the Samford School of Business the Brock School of Business.  Kara handles all of the events marketing,media relations, public relations and online digital strategies including social media for the Brock School of Business.

Kara's experience also includes PR, marketing,Public Affairs and fundraising for the American Red Cross National Office in Washington, DC.  After 9/11 she worked in disaster public affairs to help victims of the September 11 tragedy. She also worked with the Red Cross Public Affairs team to help prepare the organization for Capitol Hill press conferences and hearings in the days following September 11.  

 In addition, Kara has a background working with political organizations on both sides of the aisle. Her early political work includes, working with Alabama Governor Guy Hunt’s campaign during his bid fora second term in office and then serving with Governor Hunt's administration through 1993. Other political work includes project work with The International Republican Institute and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, both of which are located in Washington, DC. 

After returning to her hometown of Birmingham,Ala., Kara started her consulting firm, Kennedy Resource Development. In the spring of 2007 and prior to joining the Brock School of Business, Kara worked with the Gaffey Group of Atlanta, Georgia on the economic development visit to Alabama of the EU Ambassador to the United States John Bruton.  

Kara has a BA in Communications and Political Science Auburn University, where she was member of the sorority Delta Gamma. (DG).  Kara lives in Fultondale, Ala., and is a member of the Cathedral Church of the Advent.
