Samford Brock School of Business professor receives national recognition

2011-08-17

Birmingham, Ala. – Samford University Professor Franz Lohrke, Brock Family Chair in Entrepreneurship, was recently chosen as the 2011 Best Case Reviewer for Entrepreneurship: Theory and Practice (ET&P) during the national Academy of Management conference in San Antonio, Texas.  ET&P is a top academic journal published by Baylor University that has both cutting edge research focusing on how entrepreneurs successfully start new businesses and case studies of new ventures that professors can use to teach key entrepreneurship concepts to students.

Journals like ET&P rely on experts in the field to review research to judge its importance and to help authors improve a study’s quality.  Dr. Lohrke was appointed to the ET&P case review board in January.

"It is an honor to receive this national recognition,” said Dr. Lohrke.  “ET&P has long been recognized as one of the leading journals in entrepreneurship by both professors and practitioners.  The Financial Times lists it annually as one of the most influential academic business journals in the world.”

About the Brock School of Business at Samford University:
The renaming of the Samford School of Business to the Brock School of Business in December 2007 was a milestone achievement for business education at Samford, which has offered degrees in business and commerce since 1922.  In 1965, the School of Business was established to offer both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business.  Alabama’s first part-time master of business administration degree program was established at Samford, and the first MBA degrees were awarded in 1967.  The master of accountancy degree was approved in 1995.  The business school was fully accredited by AACSB International in 1999 and reaffirmed in 2010, a recognition earned by less than five percent of business schools worldwide.   In 2010, the School was chosen as the Best New Entrepreneurship Program in the U.S. by the U.S. Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
