    Purpose

    Samford's Ministry Training Institute exists to equip Christians to be leaders in their churches and communities through theological education and practical ministry training.

    Description

    Ministry Training Institute is a non-degree certificate program of quality biblical, theological,and practical ministry courses that prepares and equips ministers and lay leaders for service in God's Kingdom. The courses are held in a variety of locations all over the state of Alabama. The instruction is led by qualified and experienced instructors and is biblically based and administered with the highest integrity.

    Core Values

    • The Sufficiency of Jesus Christ as Savior and head of the church. Colossians 1:18-20
    • The Authority of Scriptures as the inspired Word of God. 2 Timothy 3:16.
    • The Holy Spirit as the one who enlightens and empowers the believer to know the Scriptures. John 15:26.
    • The Church is God's redeemed people actively engaged in knowing him and making him known. Acts 2:43-47.
    • Christians are called to have a great commitment to the great commission and the great commandment. Matthew 28:19; Matthew 22:37-40.
    • Christians are called to be lifelong learners of the Bible and active in using their spiritual gifts for the benefit of the church. Acts 2: 41-42; 1 Corinthians 12:7.

    Stated Goals

    • To engage God's people in the Scriptures.
    • To train Christians to carry out the great commission.
    • To equip Pastors, Ministers and church leaders to have a deeper understanding of their calling and their unique design to serve the Body of Christ.
    • To provide opportunities for students to be trained and prepared for ministry opportunities in their churches and communities.
    • To guide students to serve God with greater confidence as they are equipped with tools for ministry and service.

    Program Overview

    Certificates are available in two areas of study, Biblical Studies and Pastoral Ministry. A graduate Certificate in Christian Ministry can be earned after the completion of core classes for both certificates plus 4 electives. The student will earn the Biblical Studies and Pastoral Ministry certificates after the completion of 6 classes of concentration in the appropriate area of study plus an additional 4 classes of electives chosen by the student. There are classes that are specifically marked as elective classes, but a student can take courses from the other core certificate courses and it will be counted as an elective as well. Students must take a total of 30 credit hours for completion of a certificate. The Graduate Certificate in Christian Ministry will be attained with a total of 48 credit hours. If a student chooses to take a class from the other certificate courses it will count as an elective, but they will still need to supplement with another elective for a total of 48 hours. All classes are 3 credit hours.

    BSBI 101: Biblical interpretation, BSOT 102: Old Testament, BSNT 103: New Testament, BSPL 104: Paul’s Letters, BSMP 105: The Minor Prophets, BSBF 106: Biblical Foundations.

    Pastoral Ministry Certificate

    PMH 101: Intro to preaching, PMPL 102: Pastoral Leadership, PMPC 103: Pastoral Counseling, PMCM 104: The Church and its Mission, PMCA 105: Church Administration, PMRC 106: Church Renewal and Revitalization.

    Electives

    ELSP 101: Strategic Planning (Developing a Winning Strategy), ELBD 102: Baptist Doctrines, ELSD 103: Spiritual Disciplines, ELCC 104: Overcoming Church Conflict, ELCE 105: Christian Ethics, ELBH 106: Baptist History.

    Graduate Certificate in Christian Ministry

    Awarded upon the successful completion of core classes for both certificates plus 4 electives.
