Author, Theologian Michael Novak Offers Free Lecture at Samford

Dr. Michael Novak, author of 25 books on philosophy and culture and winner of the 1994 million-dollar Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion, will speak at Samford University Tuesday, April 10. The public is invited free.

Novak, whose masterpiece "The Spirit of Democratic Capitalism" was printed underground in Poland before the fall of Communism, will lecture on "Best Hope for Democracy, Best Hope for the Poor" at 6:30 p.m. in Beeson Divinity Hall 101 North.

The program is sponsored by The Templeton Foundation/Freedom Project Lecture Series at Samford.

Novak holds the George Frederick Jewett Chair in Religion and Public Policy at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C. He has received numerous awards including the 2000 Masaryk Medal presented by Vaclav Havel of the Czech Republic.

In addition to his books, Novak has written numerous essays and reviews published in such national publications as "The New Republic," "The Atlantic," "The New York Times Magazine," "Harper's" and "National Review."
