Registration Deadlines

After you have paid your deposit for admission, a postcard will be mailed to you with information about online registration. Look for your postcard the first week in April. Be sure to register at least two weeks prior to the Orientation session you wish to attend, but the sooner the better. The Orientation sessions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and each session has a maximum number of students allowed. You will receive confirmation of the session you will attend by mail. If you have questions, please contact the Office of Orientation at 205-726-4230 or orientation@samford.edu.

Costs

The cost for attending Orientation is $175 for entering freshmen. This includes payment for the student’s housing for one night in the dorm, four meals for the student and parents in our dining hall, and materials for Orientation in June and August. Registration takes place online, and payment must be made with a MasterCard or Visa.

University Health Services

Samford University requires all fulltime, degree-seeking students to submit an Immunization Record.  The completed form is due prior to registration and is considered delinquent if not received in its entirety within two weeks of the first day of class.  The record must be signed by a health-care provider or include a health department stamp.  Failure to submit this documentation within two weeks of the first day of class will result in a $150 (non-refundable) fine and a registration hold on your record.

In addition to the Immunization Record, all students living in university housing are required to submit the Health Form.  The necessary physical examination must be within 12 months of submission and will be accepted only on the Health Form provided.  These documents should be submitted to University Health Services prior to registration and are considered delinquent if not received in their entirety within two weeks of the first day of class.  Failure to meet this deadline will result in a registration hold on the student’s record, a $150 non-refundable fine and possible removal from the residence hall.   Please note that if you are a student-athlete, your athletics physical will not be accepted in lieu of this documentation.

Before Orientation

  • Check the Orientation Schedule to familiarize yourself with what you will be doing while you are here. Check-in begins at 8:00AM on the first day, and we should conclude around 4:30PM on the second day.
  • Be sure to memorize or write down your Samford University e-mail address user name and password; you will be using it throughout Orientation. If you do not know your information, you can call Technology Services User Support at 205-726-2662.
  • Have your physician complete and sign the Health Form for Residential Students (includes the Health Form and the Immunization Record) or the Immunization Record for commuter students.  These forms are due to the University Health Office by August 1, 2013.
  • Pack your bags for an overnight stay in the residence hall. Bring comfortable, casual clothes and shoes. You will also need to bring towels, sheets, a blanket and a pillow for a single bed, bath supplies and an alarm clock.

During Orientation

  • Maps and Directions to Samford. Once you get to Samford's campus, enter the main gate from Lakeshore Drive, and follow the orientation signs that lead to our check-in locations. The Orientation Staff will be around campus waiting to assist and welcome you to campus.
  • Turn in your Health Form and Immunization Form when checking in if you haven't already mailed it to Student Health.
  • The World Language Evaluation will be administered the first day of orientation to determine what level of world language you should register for. All students should plan to take this evaluation.
  • Go to Public Safety & Emergency Management in the University Center, 2nd floor, to have your student ID made sometime during your orientation.
  • Register for classes for the fall semester (and summer if coming).

After Orientation

  • Contact your roommate. Residence Life will send out your assignment via email sometime in July. You can discuss with your roommate what each of you will bring for your new room.
  • All tuition billing will be sent from the Bursar to your Samford email address. Now is a good time to add your parents as an Authorized User.
  • Start shopping for and organizing what you will bring to Samford in the fall.

All students, including those from the Birmingham area, are required to live on campus during their Orientation session. All overnight stays on campus for students will take place on Monday (for Bulldog Days 1, 2 and 3). We invite all parents to stay at one of our host hotels. Rates are reduced, and we will host a welcome reception for the June Orientation sessions from 4:00-6:00pm on Sunday night at each location. Even if you are not staying at one of our host hotels, we invite you to drop by for the welcome receptions. We look forward to welcoming you when you arrive!
