Commitment
Samford University is committed to fielding and developing ministerial students with the highest potential for effectiveness in ministry. The Preministerial Scholarship contributes to this effort by offering a limited number of merit scholarships to students who exhibit:
- A clear calling to full-time ministry in traditional, professional, church-related ministry vocations.
- High academic standards: a 26 ACT or 1190 SAT minimum.
- Giftedness and competence in areas demanded by church-related ministries.
- A commitment to further ministerial formation by being admitted as a degree-seeking student at a graduate school that would further their education
Repayment of Scholarship
By applying for a Preministerial Scholarship, a student is affirming a significant motivation and commitment to (1) a future in a full-time church related ministry: senior pastor, associate pastor, minister of education, minister of music, minister to youth, minister to children, career missionary, church related nonprofit ministries, hospital chaplain, campus minister, pastoral counselor or seminary/religion professor, and (2) furthering ministerial formation by attending an accredited seminary, divinity school, or religion graduate program upon graduation from Samford. Should this commitment ever change, the student is expected to repay this scholarship to the university.
