Our Story

Dr. Jane Cobia, Associate Professor in our Orlean Bullard Beeson School of Education, sent this reflection from one of our students in that school’s doctoral program:

“I have faced many obstacles in my life, but have been blessed with a strong determination to overcome these obstacles in an effort to achieve my goals.  My life story consists of many disadvantages and setbacks, such as being raised in an impoverished, single-parent household and being the oldest of four children.  I was never a stranger to hunger, cold, or any other unfortunate circumstance that the under privileged experience.  I was however, steadfast with the idea that that would not always be my life and I saw that education was a way out, leading me to cling to it with all of the determination and fight I had in me.  As a result, I am looking forward to being a candidate for a doctoral degree who beat the odds.”

The world is better because Samford nurtures individuals in “their development of intellect, creativity, faith, and personhood.”
