Like A Mustard Seed

A Day with Tex Sample and Moises Rodriguez - October 9, 2012 on the campus of Samford University

There’s been a change in the format for the Like A Mustard Seed conference at Samford University.  Rather than a full roster of workshops, we’ve restructured the event to provide more time with two keynote leaders. Participants will have opportunity to interact with Tex Sample or Moises Rodriguez in small group settings on Tuesday, October 9, 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Tex Sample head shotDr. Tex Sample will present the topic, “It’s the Revelation, Dummy: Doing Ministry in a Traditional Culture.”  Tex is a storyteller, author, and former seminary professor.  He teaches in the areas of U.S. lifestyles and culture, power, social class, and theological ethics. He is a specialist in the study of blue collar and poor people.

Sample has authored nine books including Blue Collar Ministry, U.S. Lifestyles and Mainline Churches; Ministry in an Oral Culture: Living with Will Rogers, Uncle Remus, and Minnie Pearl; White Soul: Country Music, the Church and Working People; Blue Collar Resistance and the Politics of Jesus.

MoisesDr. Moises Rodriguez will present a conference for Hispanic pastors.  Among the topics he will address, “Understanding our Misunderstanding: Communication Challenges for Hispanics & Anglos” will be featured.  Moises is associate professor of biblical and theological studies at Baptist University of the Americas in San Antonio. In addition to his teaching role, he directs an institute that offers certificate-level training in ministry for bivocational Hispanic ministers. He has conducted numerous workshops for Hispanic pastors and Anglo churches working with Hispanics. Prior to joining the faculty of BUA he was pastor of Primera Iglesia Bautista in Ft. Worth.
