New Service Management for Tracking Incidents, Requests and Projects

In accordance with Strategic Technology Plan Initiative 5.2 “Project Management/Help Desk Management System”, Technology Services has implemented a launch of a new system, “EasyVista”. EasyVista will replace our current systems for tracking incidents, requests for service and projects. One of the great features of the new system will be immediate email notifications to keep you informed on the progress/status of your request or incident. You will receive 3 different types of email notifications related to your incident or request for service: Notification that your request or incident has been received and is recorded in our tracking system. A validation request when your issue or request has been completed.  This message enables us to confirm that you are satisfied with the manner in which your incident or request was resolved/completed. A request to complete a brief survey once you have validated so that we can ensure you are satisfied with the closure of your incident or request.  A primary goal of the new system is to get your feedback regarding the quality and responsiveness to your requests or issues.  

Encrypting Sensitive Emails

Samford University continues efforts outlined by its Identity Theft Prevention Task Force to protect University-managed sensitive information from loss. One program that assists with this process is called Data Loss Prevention, and it employs encryption technology. All employee email to other employee accounts is automatically encrypted. Encryption of email to students, alumni and non-Samford email accounts (external recipient) is not assured. However, we must ensure that all email that contains sensitive information is encrypted.

Encryption of Samford University Computer Assets

Samford University is continuing to improve its IT security posture by reducing risk. To protect University data, University-owned computers used by employees will be encrypted. The priority goes to department machines that may hold sensitive University information. Technology Services has been testing its new encryption system from WinMagic, which will manage encryption of disk storage on Windows and Mac systems, both laptop and desktop computers. Technology Services and Accounting department computers are now encrypted, and we are continuing deployment to all employee machines. We will soon begin to include encryption on all replacement computers when they are delivered.

The New Microsoft Office for Students

Samford University is providing Microsoft Office to every student free of charge. This means the latest version of the full Office productivity suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, and more available for offline and online use to best prepare you for class. As long as you’re a student here, you’ll be able to use this software for free.

Help Desk Expands Hours
