Major General Charles Baldwin, chief, U.S. Air Force Chaplain Service, Washington, D.C., will address students at Samford University Thursday, Sept. 8, at 10 a.m. in Reid Chapel. The public is invited free of charge.

Maj. Gen. Baldwin is presented as the 2005 lecturer in the J.B. and Nancy Davis convocation speaker series.

A member of the special staff of the Chief of Staff, Baldwin advises on all matters pertinent to the religious and moral welfare of Air Force people. He is responsible for an effectual total chaplain program to meet the religious needs of all members of the Air Force.

As chief, he is the senior pastor for a combined active-duty, Guard, Reserve and civilian force of more than 850,000 people who serve at about 1,300 locations in the U.S. and overseas. He oversees about 2,200 chaplains and enlisted support people.

Baldwin is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

His Samford appearance will be part of a nationwide observance of the fourth anniversary of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001.
