What do you think is the BEST thing about Cumberland School of Law?

I have found Cumberland’s community of students, professors, and faculty to be the best thing about Cumberland. From the first week of my 1L year and beyond, numerous school friends and mentors helped ease my transition into law school by providing me with enormous amounts of support, encouragement, and mentorship—which I am extremely grateful for!

Why did you choose Cumberland School of Law?

I chose Cumberland because of its reputation for being a wonderful place to learn, challenge oneself, build relationships, and begin developing a strong legal career. I have found the school’s admirable reputation to be true in many ways, but one unique aspect that I admire most is Cumberland striving to afford practical experiences to students from the get-go. For instance, Cumberland has already provided me with vast opportunities to apply what I have learned in classrooms to practical situations, including 1L trial competitions, oral arguments, drafting motions and briefs, and more.

What do you most enjoy about studying law in Birmingham? What do you like to do in Birmingham?

I enjoy studying law in Birmingham because of the strong legal community that is present throughout the city. There are numerous Cumberland alums in the area who have provided me with great school and career advice, which undoubtedly contributed to my wonderful 1L year experience.

Law school aside, I enjoy hiking at Oak Mountain, going to the farmer’s market at Pepper Place, and trying new restaurants in Birmingham!

Student Organizations/Extracurricular Activities

At Cumberland, I serve as the Alabama Student Bar Association’s Director of Outreach and one of the school’s Admissions Ambassadors. I am also involved in Women in Law and am in the JD/MBA joint-degree program.

Some of my extracurricular activities include playing pickleball and tennis, church involvement, and going to concerts.

If you could give any advice to your Pre-Law school self, what would you say?

Treat law school like an eight-to-five job. You will hear this advice a lot throughout your time in law school, but truly try to adopt this lifestyle so you can enjoy any time after 5 o’clock. Spending time investing in family, friendships, and personal growth is important and if you procrastinate or routinely work late hours, it’s difficult to invest in these meaningful areas of your life. Of course, there will be plenty of times where you will spend late nights in the library but try to consistently manage your time well throughout each semester, so you can enjoy time “off” as much as possible.

What do you plan to do after graduation?

As of now, I would like to stay in and begin working in the Birmingham area.
