We write to you today to offer words of encouragement and support during these difficult and uncertain times, and to provide you with an update on Samford University’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We have all been affected by this pandemic, but we’d like to reassure you of some of the efforts the university and Cumberland School of Law are taking to safeguard our campus community while ensuring the academic progress of our students.

Beginning March 16, all Samford University courses moved to online instruction until at least April 6, and all faculty and staff shifted to remote work on March 17. Since these changes were implemented, our law faculty and staff have united to assure that the delivery of a superb Cumberland education is uncompromised. And, our students have fully embraced this transition.

As a very active law school, there are many events that were planned for the coming weeks and months. We have been and are still evaluating each of them and will communicate changes with our community via email and social media. The announcement of our distinguished alumni awards will be postponed to the summer.

The spring is prime time for our students to be participating in job, internship and externship interviews, either on campus or off-site. We are thankful to all of the employers who continue to offer interviews for our students either in person or via another method such as phone, Skype, FaceTime or other.

Regardless of our remote operations, Cumberland faculty and staff remain attentive to alumni and prospective student inquiries, so please don’t hesitate to contact us by email or phone.

We, as a university, are collecting stories of our alumni making a difference in their communities during this time. If you feel inclined to share your story, feel free to email them to our communication manager listed below.

In closing, the relationships you made at Cumberland are bonds that last a lifetime. We encourage you to reach out to each other, lift each other up and lend a helping hand, while also focusing on your own physical and mental health.

We all need each other during this temporary season we are going through, and we want you to know we’re here to support you, just as you’ve done for us throughout the years.

Sincerely,
