Kerry McInerney is the director of Cumberland School of Law's graduate and international programs and serves as the academic coordinator for the graduate program's Financial Services Regulatory Compliance concentration. He teaches courses in Mortgage & Securities Regulation, Banking Law and Regulation in the U.S., Regulatory Enforcement and Risk Management, Crime and Compliance: BSA/AML, Legal Writing and Communication, and the Master's Capstone course. In addition, McInerney teaches courses in Cumberland School of Law's JD program including Business of Law and Banking Law & Regulations in the U.S., and taught Mediator Practice, Mediation Advocacy, and Advanced Mediation during the 2021-2022 school year.  He is also a certified Peer Reviewer for higher education instructional design by Quality Matters.

Professor McInerney is the former Managing Partner of Alabama and Mississippi Litigation for McCalla Raymer Leibert Pierce LLC. He joined McCalla after spending 20 years at Sirote & Permutt PC, where he devoted his career to financial services litigation and compliance. As chair of Sirote's Mortgage Litigation and Florida Mortgage Services Groups, he managed a team of dozens of attorneys defending class actions, trying jury trials, and handling appeals in state and federal courts. He served as trusted adviser to clients responding to regulatory enforcement actions and counseled financial services clients on compliance matters.

McInerney is an award-winning author and frequent lecturer and panelist on issues related to the financial services industry. He has published more than 30 articles and appeared as a speaker or panelist at more than 25 industry events and continuing legal education seminars presented by ACI, The Knowledge Group, NBI, USFN, ALFN, DRI, the American Bar Association, and others.

Law is the second act of McInerney's career. Prior to law school, he obtained two degrees in acting—a bachelor’s in musical theater and a master’s in acting, including two years with the Hilberry Repertory Theatre Company. He has been featured in industrial films, television and radio commercials, and dozens of theatrical productions including The Grapes of Wrath, As You Like It, Much Ado About Nothing, Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell, Cyrano de Bergerac, Hamlet, MacBeth, Nothing is Sacred, The Heidi Chronicles (nominated for a Detroit Free Press best supporting actor award), March of the Falsettos (nominated for a Birmingham Obelisk Award for best supporting actor), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and The Glass Menagerie.

McInerney has been recognized by his leadership in and service to his community. He has served on many civic and charitable boards and is a graduate of Project Corporate Leadership and Leadership Birmingham. He was named recipient of the Birmingham Vulcan Award (“Hero” category), the Karen Nomberg Spirit Award (Susan G. Komen Foundation), and the Tiffany Spirit Award (MS Society).

McInerney is married to Jenny and is father to Katelyn (20), Erin (18), and Benjamin (5). He ran the Chicago Marathon, is a certified Spinning® instructor, a cancer survivor, and is an avid fly fisherman and woodworker.
