Legal Interests

I am interested in Corporate Transactional law, particularly in public finance, corporate taxation, intellectual property, and mergers and acquisitions.

Hobbies

My background is in graphic design, so I still do a fair amount of that in my free time. I have coordinated several weddings and rehearsal dinners and do most of the flower arranging as well. Before going to Auburn, I was pursuing an apprenticeship as a professional ballerina, so I also teach ballet.

What do you think is the BEST thing about Cumberland School of Law?

Cumberland professors are second to none! Every single one of them genuinely wants you to learn the material and succeed in the legal field. While each one has their own teaching style, they all host office hours and many keep an open door. I have found some of my greatest mentors in the professors!

Why did you choose Cumberland School of Law?

I chose Cumberland because I wanted to pursue a legal education that would prepare me for the "real world." While much of law school is still highly theoretical, Cumberland offers many practical skills that train you for litigation, legal writing, and professional practice.

In addition, I love the city of Birmingham. Even though I grew up in Birmingham, the city has changed and grown along with me. From parks to walk my dog, to a large group of young professionals, and a GREAT restaurant scene, Birmingham is the perfect city!

What do you most enjoy about studying law in Birmingham? What do you like to do in Birmingham?

Birmingham is the perfect "in between" size city. There are several outstanding neighborhoods, restaurants, law firms, stores, sports teams, and even traveling Broadway shows. But Birmingham is also small enough to have a reasonable cost of living and to really know your neighbors. I have lived here my entire life and I still find myself exploring new areas and restaurants.

Student Organizations/Extracurricular Activities

I am a Caruthers Fellow, which is a writing assistant that you can use for your LLR papers. I also am a member of Women in Law and Christian Legal Society.

If you could give any advice to your Pre-Law school self, what would you say?

I would say be as much of a sponge as possible. So many people have advice to offer and while not all of it will be helpful, a lot of it will be! Start your outlines as early as you possibly can and take time to review notes during the 30 minutes or so before and after class. Go to every office hour that you can go to and really get to know your professors.

As far as outside of school, keep up a good routine. Take time to go on walks, call your friends that live out of town, and go to dinner with high school/undergrad friends. I loved to read before law school and did not have time first semester to read anything that was not required, but second semester I downloaded Audible and got into the habit of listening to books on walks/runs.

What do you plan to do after graduation?

I am extremely open to whatever I am called to do! I love Birmingham and would love to stay here and start working with a firm, but I also would love to pursue an LLM in tax or clerk for a year or so with a judge.
