What do you think is the BEST thing about Cumberland School of Law?

Hands down the people. Going into law school, I had this idea that the environment between my classmates would be cut-throat and competitive. I was super nervous about making friends, being able to ask for help, and having people there to support me. From the moment I started my 1L year, I realized that the environment at Cumberland is the exact opposite from what I thought it was going to be. My classmates have become some of my very best friends, and we lift each other up rather than competing with each other. I am not afraid to ask anyone for help, share something I am struggling with, or admit that I am confused about a certain topic in class. I could not imagine going to a law school where I view my classmates as competitors, rather than my teammates. There is no way I would have survived my first year without my classmates.

Why did you choose Cumberland School of Law?

I have lived in Alabama my whole life and know I want to stay here to practice law. I chose Cumberland because of its amazing trial advocacy program and stellar reputation within Alabama’s legal community.

What do you most enjoy about studying law in Birmingham? What do you like to do in Birmingham?

Birmingham is the “legal hub” of Alabama. There is a wide variety of different law practices and opportunities within Birmingham which makes studying law here really cool. In addition, Cumberland has a very strong alumni presence in Birmingham, and alumni are very willing to help out with networking, questions, jobs, etc.

If you could give any advice to your Pre-Law school self, what would you say?

I would say, “it is worth it.” 1L year was one of the toughest and most trying years of my life. I had to make many sacrifices, push myself to limits I never thought I could reach, and remind myself every day of my “why”. Looking back now, it is clear to me that it was all worth it. During law school, it is easy to get caught up in the moment and forget why you are really doing this. I think it is important for law students to remind themselves about why they want to become a lawyer and focus on the end goal.

What do you plan to do after graduation?

After graduation, my plan is to go into private practice and represent plaintiffs in civil litigation.
