Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law and Brock School of Business will partner to host Opportunities and Challenges in Real Estate and Sustainable Development, a half-day symposium on Oct. 19 from 8 a.m. to noon in the Lucille S. Beeson Law Library.

The symposium will bring together legal, business and real estate professionals, along with students, faculty and community members, to examine emerging issues at the intersection of real estate development, land use, sustainability and environmental stewardship.

The event will feature keynote speaker Jonathan Rosenbloom, associate dean of Online Learning and distinguished professor of law at Albany Law School. Rosenbloom teaches climate law, land use and property law and is widely recognized for his scholarship on sustainable development and climate resilience. He is the author of Building Food Security and Sovereignty: 40 Ways to Regenerate the Local Food System through Development and Remarkable Cities and the Fight Against Climate Change, among numerous other publications.

The symposium is presented by Cumberland School of Law's Land Use and Natural Resources Law Center and Continuing Legal Education department in partnership with the real estate program in Brock School of Business.

Participants will gain insight into current legal and practical considerations surrounding land use, property rights, climate impacts and sustainable development strategies.
