What do you think is the BEST thing about Cumberland?

The best thing about Samford's Cumberland School of Law is how the school seeks to integrate faith and legal education. At Cumberland, professors know students by name, invest in their lives, and call them higher to seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly. At Cumberland you are not simply a GPA and a rank; instead, you are a person made in the image of God seeking to love your neighbor as yourself and training to serve your city, state, and country in the legal profession.

Why did you choose Cumberland?

I chose Cumberland for law school because for me, Samford is home. I studied as an undergraduate student at Samford and during that time, I grew in my character, faith, and intellect more than at any other time in my life. So when choosing where to attend law school there was no question, Samford's Cumberland School of Law is where I wanted to continue to learn and grow.

What do you most enjoy about studying law in Birmingham? What do you like to do in Birmingham?

Birmingham is the legal heart of Alabama. Wherever I go in Birmingham outside of campus - church, concerts, restaurants, or sporting events - you run into and meet members of the city's legal community. This creates a unique atmosphere amongst law schools in that the city in which you study can also be the city you eventually practice in after law school. This helps incentivize building relationships in Birmingham's local community that will allow you to truly call Birmingham home.

If you could give any advice to your pre-law school self, what would you say?

The law is a calling not merely a job. Therefore, treat it as such. When deciding to serve as an attorney you are deciding to take on a position of trust, a position that represents the better angels of our American system. This means deciding to go to law school is not a decision you should take or treat lightly, yet at the same time, once you have made that decision, it should provide you with an unshakeable confidence and sense of purpose that you are exactly where you are meant to be and you are as capable and worthy as every other law student who stands beside you taking on the same oath to honestly and faithfully serve the least of our society.

What do you plan to do after graduation?

After graduation, I plan to stay in Alabama, hopefully in Birmingham, to serve as an attorney and trusted friend to all with whom I work and serve alongside.
